Holy shit we never thought our work shoes would outlast the Parlor. Sorry cody but it looks like you are out of a job and for the rest of us it's time to scramble. After 11 years the Parlor is closing due to an outrageous rent hike that almost doubles what the original rent was. If you have been to the Parlor you know that, while it has its charm, the building has no a/c and leaves much to be desired it terms of niceties we casual austinites require as surrounding accoutrements. Never the less, the raucous punk shows and extremely attractive bar staff of the Parlor North Loop will have to scurry to another locale for future intercourse with their adoring public.
I don't think that the Hyde Park Parlor (43rd and Guad) will be increasing the amount of live music it already has. During SXSW and other special occasions it has been known to shake the roof a bit with music from acts as big as the Riverboat Gamblers, to some as small as Cari and Jason. Still let it be known that the Parlor is not dead but rather, that it will thrive under the focused attention this will bring to the location that still exists.
Bitter Birds will play its farewell show on June 17th with special guests tba.
Sailor's Wife, 'the bastard sons or the Parlor' will play the following night June 18th on the final night of festivities. Please join us and raise your cups to the greatest rock 'n' roll pizza joint austin will ever know.
